Carolyn Ziel is a writer, mentor and writing teacher based in the South Bay of Los Angeles. She teaches Jack Grapes' Method Writing and helps people find their voice, write their story and, in her words, change their lives.
She grew up on movie sets and expected to follow her father into the film industry. When he died in 1988, her life turned in another direction. She kept moving, through Europe, Phoenix and Santa Barbara, before settling in the South Bay, and eventually did the inner work of finding herself. That work included 15 years studying Gestalt Awareness and Communication, well over a decade studying with Jack Grapes, and many courses, workshops, retreats and years of reading, writing and meditation. Finding her voice, she says, led her to her why and her dharma.
Jack Grapes, creator of Method Writing, has described her as "a master facilitator" who "has an empathic sense of what the student needs." She works with writers on memoirs, novels, poetry and stories, through small supportive classes, one-on-one coaching and developmental editing. Her Found Voices Next Level Writing Support class is for writers who want accountability along the way. Her approach is to write first and edit afterward, and to treat everything as a first draft.
Her YouTube channel carries the same mission, to help people discover their innate creativity and live an empowered, impassioned life. It covers Method Writing, creative and holistic living, and holistic weight loss, a subject she came to through her own experience of releasing what no longer served her.
Worth Knowing
Carolyn Ziel is a writer, meditation practitioner, and Method Writing teacher based in the South Bay of Los Angeles whose work bridges the gap between finding your authentic voice and actually getting your story onto the page. After growing up on film sets and expecting to follow her father into the film industry, that path shifted when he died in 1988—triggering a years-long journey through Europe, Phoenix, and Santa Barbara in search of understanding and direction. She eventually invested decades in systematic inner work: 15 years studying Gestalt Awareness and Communication, extensive meditation practice, and over a decade of training under Jack Grapes, the creator of Method Writing. Jack Grapes himself has called her "a master facilitator" with "an empathic sense of what the student needs." People seek her out because she doesn't separate self-discovery from writing skill; she treats the two as inseparable, and her track record of helping writers find their voice—whether through small classes like Found Voices Next Level Writing Support or one-on-one developmental coaching—has built a devoted following of serious writers who credit her with unlocking the authenticity their work was missing.
