IndiaJiva

IndiaJiva is the musical partnership of Australian composers, multi-instrumentalists and producers Ron Ragel and Vicki Hansen. The name means "Soul of India". For more than two decades they have blended the spiritual traditions of India with contemporary cinematic production, working in the field of world fusion mantra music.

Together they play sitar, lap steel guitar, bansuri and bamboo flutes, keyboards, didgeridoo, guitars, bass, percussion and vocals. Their recordings set ancient Sanskrit chants and Hindu and Buddhist mantras among lush orchestration and flowing melodies. Rather than recreating traditional devotional music, they reimagine it, keeping the meditative nuances of its roots. The music is made for meditation, yoga, Yoga Nidra, sacred sound meditation and sleep.

They have released over 18 mantra and meditation music albums internationally, along with DVDs and books on yoga, sound, spirituality and sacred art. Their listeners are in more than 150 countries. Alongside this work, Ron and Vicki have composed music for documentary and television productions for more than thirty years, with their music heard on broadcasters including the BBC, ABC Australia, SBS, Channel Nine and Al Jazeera.

They also offer an online course, Music and Mantras for Health and Happiness. It draws on the Indian musical tradition, the meaning of popular mantras, pranayama breathing, and the relationship between musical notes and the chakras. They describe it as closer to a spiritual practice, rooted in Nada yoga, than to music therapy.
