Michelle Cashman is a singer-songwriter, yoga and meditation teacher and storyteller. Her work weaves music, mindfulness, movement and creative practice to support self-connection and healing. Born and based on the New South Wales South Coast, she describes helping people build a kinder relationship with themselves.
Her music is rooted in folk and Americana. She makes it for what she calls the messy middle, the place between breaking and becoming, grief and gratitude. Her songs pair honesty with tenderness, humour and hope, and draw on lived experience including leaving home early, recovery, late-diagnosed neurodivergence, love and loss. Her voice can float quietly over a melody before rising into something raw and commanding. She has performed on national television, including appearances on Australian Idol and The Voice. Her music has had national radio airplay, including high rotation on ABC Country and Triple M Country, and her album was named ABC Country's Album of the Week.
Michelle is a qualified yoga and meditation teacher and holds a Diploma of Health Science. Her approach to nervous-system regulation, self-worth and embodied awareness is gentle and non-striving, and her classes are suited to beginners and to people living with injury or chronic illness. She also offers guided meditations, workshops, one-to-one sessions and creative wellness retreats on the South Coast.
She shares what she has learned through more than twenty years of sobriety and ongoing recovery, as someone still learning out loud. In her words: "I'm not 'healed', and I haven't 'arrived'." Her work is grounded in one purpose: to turn lived experience into music and meaning, and to help people feel less alone.
Worth Knowing
Michelle Cashman is a New South Wales South Coast singer-songwriter who also works as a qualified yoga and meditation teacher and storyteller. Her songs are rooted in folk and Americana and written for what she calls the messy middle, the stretch between breaking and becoming, grief and gratitude. What sets her apart from many wellness-adjacent musicians is that the material draws directly on lived experience, including leaving home early, recovery, late-diagnosed neurodivergence, love and loss. She has more than twenty years of sobriety behind her and talks about it as someone still learning out loud, which keeps the writing from sounding finished or preachy. Listeners tend to value that the songs pair honesty with tenderness and humour rather than reaching for easy uplift. Her teaching follows the same logic, so the two halves of her practice read as one body of work rather than a side project.
