Rachel Ricketts (she/they) is an author, speaker, oracle and sacred space holder, and an attorney turned writer. She lives in Tkaronto, Canada. She describes her work as rooted in Afrofuturism, abolition and alchemy, and as centered on Black and Indigenous solidarity, liberation and healing.
She shares her perspective on community care, Afrofuturist activism, transformative justice and creative wellness. She supports people, especially Black and Indigenous people, to remember their innate wisdom and reclaim the love, dignity and power that systems of oppression tried to take. She is committed to the care and healing of queer, trans, mad, sick and disabled Black and Indigenous people.
Rachel says she is known for curating brave and sacred spaces, offering nuanced perspectives and practical tools, and guiding people to witness and embrace themselves with levity, ease and joy. She draws on embodied, spiritual and ancestral wisdom, and she has shared virtual and in-person offerings since 2016. Her meditations for Headspace include "honoring our experience," "leaning into liberty" and a meditation on grief and injustice.
She is the author of Do Better, part memoir and part guidebook on using mindfulness-based practices to get embodied and fight white supremacy from the inside out. It was an instant Bookshop and Toronto Star bestseller and a 2022 Rakuten Kobo nominee. Her lyrical mindfulness guide for children, especially Black and Brown children, helps young readers feel big feelings and know they are enough. It was a 2025 NAACP Image Award nominee.
Rachel is the only child of the late Suzette, a chronically ill and disabled Jamaican immigrant and single mother whom she calls her champion. She loves donuts, dancing, divinity and disruption.
Worth Knowing
Rachel Ricketts is a Toronto-based author, speaker, oracle, and meditation teacher—and formerly an attorney—who has built a devoted following since 2016 by centering the healing and liberation of Black and Indigenous people. Her work is rooted in a rigorous, unflinching fusion of Afrofuturism, abolition, and alchemy, paired with practical, embodied mindfulness teaching that rejects spiritual bypassing in favor of real material change. People care about Rachel because she refuses the false comfort of generic wellness: instead, she offers shadow work, ancestral wisdom, and hard-edged analysis of white supremacy alongside meditation and joy. Her specificity—drawing on her own life as the child of a chronically ill Jamaican immigrant single mother—makes her teaching legible to people who've never seen themselves reflected in mainstream wellness spaces. She's known for curating brave and sacred spaces where queer, trans, mad, sick, and disabled Black and Indigenous people can remember their power, and her audiences value both her rigor and her gift for levity.
