Full Moon Rituals: Gratitude and Clarity for the Spiritual Harvest

The full moon rises, and Laylä Föz sits before her camera to teach her audience one of the most generous rituals in the lunar calendar. She speaks in Portuguese to her community, her tone warm and direct, as if inviting you into her living room rather than broadcasting from a studio. The ritual she's about to teach isn't hidden behind centuries of gatekeeping or wrapped in impenetrable tradition. It's simple, available, and grounded in a principle anyone can understand: what you plant, you harvest; what you tend, you multiply; what you celebrate, you attract. This is "Papo de Bruxa"—literally "Witch Talk"—her ongoing YouTube series that demystifies lunar practice for contemporary audiences. There's something quietly revolutionary happening in these videos: she's taking what was once the province of initiated lineages and secret societies and saying, out loud, on the internet: this is for everyone. You don't need permission, ancestry, or membership. You need only the lunar cycle itself and the willingness to show up.

How Does the Lunar Cycle Work as a Spiritual System?

Laylä's central insight is elegantly simple: the moon's phases mirror the arc of intention from seed to harvest. At the new moon, which appears dark in the sky, "we are planting the seed." This is the moment of clarity about what you want, the moment of commitment. You write down your goals. You name what matters. You plant.

During the waxing moon—as the moon grows from crescent to full—"the seed is regressing and not found." It's underground, invisible, but alive. This is the phase of tending, of nurturing the energy you set in motion. You're watering the metaphorical soil. You're letting the intention take root and begin to swell. And then the full moon arrives, bright and at its peak: "We are harvesting the seeds that were at zero, grew and was thick." The work is done. What you planted has arrived. What you tended has blossomed.

What makes this framework powerful is its cyclical nature. You're not trying to manifest everything at once. You're aligning with a rhythm that repeats every month, every year, every lifetime. The discipline is in the consistency, in returning to the same ritual again and again, letting it deepen with each turning of the moon. "Therefore, it is one of the easiest rituals," Laylä says, "because we will focus on what we already have, because we are harvesting, we will focus on gratitude." This is the psychological turn that makes the ritual work: instead of reaching and grasping and trying to force things into being, you're looking at what's already yours. You're practicing abundance consciousness at its most direct—by noticing what you have.

Why Is Gratitude the Core of Full Moon Ritual?

The word of the full moon, Laylä says, is "gratitude." This isn't sentimental—it's strategic. Gratitude is the acknowledgment that what you asked for has arrived, and gratitude is also the invitation for more to come. "We invite gratitude to enter even more into our lives," she says, naming gratitude as an active practice, not a passive feeling. The more you specify what you're grateful for, the more you anchor that abundance in your reality.

The first full moon practice is straightforward: take paper and write down everything you asked for that has now arrived, everything you are grateful for. She gives an example from her own practice: "I have a healthy body, a healthy routine, right?" She had named this during the new moon, and by the full moon, it was hers. Now she writes it down again: "I'm grateful for having a healthy body, a healthy routine." She encourages abundance in the writing. "I'm grateful for having abundant opportunities and making good use of them. So the more things you write that you're grateful for, the more you attract."

Notice the specificity: you're not meditating vaguely on happiness. You're writing down actual things, actual achievements, actual blessings. This matters because vague gratitude doesn't create neural pathways. Specificity does. When you write, your brain locates the actual experience, the actual moment, the actual feeling. You're anchoring gratitude in your nervous system, making it real and accessible. You're also creating a record—something you can return to in the future, evidence that ritual works.

The act of meditation following the writing deepens the practice. "Write everything there and meditate, edit, thanking for everything we are grateful for." You're not just thinking grateful thoughts; you're literally inviting gratitude in, as if it's an entity with its own presence and will. You're making space for it to expand.

What Is the Clarity Ritual?

The second practice Laylä teaches addresses the shadow side of the full moon—the things still unclear, still tangled, still in need of illumination. "As I said, the full moon shines a lot, it's big, it brings light, it illuminates, right? What we're going to do is take advantage of this moment to ask for this clarity, to ask for all this light, and to ask that we can understand a certain aspect of our lives, understand a certain issue that isn't so clear."

The practice is elemental and sensory. Light and crystal are the two main allies. "For this, I suggest candles; they have the power to illuminate, and... clear crystal, this is the stone of clarity, mental focus, especially so, so place it in the main room." Clear quartz, one of the most accessible crystals for beginners, becomes a focal point for your intention toward clarity. It's not that the crystal possesses magic independent of you; it's that it serves as a physical anchor for your attention. When you hold it or place it before you, it says: this is what matters right now.

The instructions are simple enough that anyone can do them: "Take your room, light your candles, choose a very quiet place for yourself. Just close your eyes, focus on some issue. If it's a relationship with someone, your relationship with your work, or a decision you have to make, you might want clarity on how you can improve. Close your eyes, hold your crystal picture, light your candles, take a deep breath, and connect with whatever entity you like to connect with. It can be a universe, God, Jesus, Buddha, Christina, whatever you want."

The last instruction is crucial. She doesn't prescribe a specific deity or spiritual framework. The structure of the ritual is the same; the theology is yours. This is what makes the practice accessible across traditions, across faiths, across different ways of being spiritual. The role of breath is subtle but important. "Take a deep breath, and connect"—breath is the bridge between the physical world and the inner world, between intention and manifestation.

Why Does Intention Matter When Using the Full Moon's Power?

Laylä offers a stark caution that should not be missed: "Be careful what you thank for, be careful what you ask for clarity. It's very powerful; it's a moment when the moon is like this, good, banishing energy." The full moon is not a time to be careless. Whatever you direct your attention toward will amplify. If you're grateful for something toxic, if you're seeking clarity on something destructive, the full moon's power will magnify it. This speaks to the ethical dimension of ritual—the understanding that what you focus on matters, that attention itself is a force, that consciousness is not neutral.

But there's also something liberating in this warning: it means you have choice. The ritual works, yes—but it works through your agency, through your intention, through the careful attention you bring. You're not a passive recipient of the moon's energy. You're an active participant, responsible for what you call in. "Choose well what you want to focus on, this light, this tension," she says, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with power.

Building a Practice for the Long Term

What Laylä is teaching, ultimately, is a system for aligning with natural rhythms and your own intention-setting capacity. The full moon ritual is not a one-time event; it's an invitation to return month after month, year after year. Each time you return, the practice deepens. Each time you write gratitude, new layers become visible. Each time you seek clarity, you become more adept at hearing your own wisdom.

The series—new moon, waxing moon, full moon—creates a container for intentional living. You're not trying to manifest through willpower alone. You're partnering with the moon, with the earth's cycles, with something vaster than your individual ego. And in that partnership, something shifts. The ritual asks you to show up, again and again, and in that showing up, you become someone who attends to their own intentions, who celebrates what arrives, and who knows how to ask for clarity when the path ahead feels dark.

Where to Go from Here

If you're new to lunar practice, begin with the next full moon. A few days in advance, sit with any intentions you set at the most recent new moon. What has manifested? What surprised you? Write it down with specificity—name the things, the feelings, the moments of arrival. On the night of the full moon, light a candle or two, find your quiet space, and read what you've written. Sit with gratitude. Let it move through your body. Feel what it's like to acknowledge that your intentions landed.

If you have access to a clear quartz crystal, keep it nearby as you begin this practice. If not, the candlelight alone is sufficient. What matters is the consistency, the return to the same ritual cycle, again and again, until it becomes a felt practice in your life. Follow Laylä's full series on YouTube to learn the new moon and waxing moon rituals. Doing the full lunar cycle—planting, tending, harvesting—will teach you something that no single full moon ritual can: that you are not separate from the rhythms of nature, that your intentions matter, that gratitude multiplies what it touches, and that the moon has always been here, waiting for you to look up.

[0:00] Hello again, welcome to the role of the

[0:03] witch, once again via computers, right?

[0:08] [Music]

[0:14] If you haven't seen the last two videos

[0:17] of the new moon ritual and the waxing moon ritual, that's okay,

[0:20] but if I were you

[0:22] and I remembered to watch them next month,

[0:24] remember to do this whole process.

[0:26] Let's do the full moon ritual now.

[0:28] When we are in the new moon, remember

[0:30] that we are planting the seed, in the

[0:32] waxing moon the seed is regressing

[0:34] and not found, we are harvesting the

[0:35] seeds that were at zero, grew and

[0:38] was thick, so now is the time to have

[0:41] this clarity of having this full moon

[0:43] bringing everything to us.

[0:45] Therefore, it is one of the easiest rituals

[0:47] because we will focus on what we

[0:49] already have, because we are harvesting,

[0:51] we will focus on gratitude. Wonderful,

[0:54] right? I like to do two things on the

[0:56] full moon, so one of them, continuing that

[0:58] process we already did, we will

[1:00] write on paper everything that

[1:03] we asked for, that we are

[1:04] grateful for, and more, right? Because we have a lot to

[1:06] be recorded in your life, focus

[1:08] on gratitude, write everything there and

[1:10] meditate, edit, thanking for everything

[1:12] we are grateful for.

[2:24] We invite gratitude to enter even more into our lives, so okay, Paulo, gratitude... I said this before telling you the next one... well, so I made my list of what I'm grateful for, remembering that I planted the seed in that new moon ritual. One of the things I wrote was: I have a healthy body, a healthy routine, right? That was one of my goals, I achieved it, okay? So I write: I'm grateful for having a healthy body, a healthy routine, and you're going to rewrite everything you wanted and achieved. And if you want to write something else, that's also good, for example: I'm grateful for having abundant opportunities and making good use of them. So the more things you write that you're grateful for, the more you attract. So, California, gratitude... now let's go... ready, second full moon ritual. As I said, the full moon shines a lot, it's big, it brings light, it illuminates, right? What we're going to do is take advantage of this moment to ask for this clarity, to ask for all this light, and to ask that we can understand a certain aspect of our lives, understand a certain issue that isn't so clear. For this, I suggest candles; they have the power to illuminate, and 4th Crystal, this is the stone of clarity,

[2:27] mental focus, especially so, so

[2:30] place it in the main room. It's very

[2:32] simple: take your room, light your

[2:34] candles, choose a very quiet place for

[2:36] yourself. That's how we do it in this video,

[2:37] asking for clarity in a certain

[2:40] aspect. Just close your eyes, focus on

[2:42] some issue. If it's a relationship with

[2:44] someone, your relationship with your work, or

[2:47] a decision you have to make, you might

[2:49] want clarity on how you can

[2:51] improve. Close your eyes, hold

[2:53] your crystal picture, light your candles, take a

[2:56] deep breath, and connect with whatever

[2:58] entity you like to connect with. It

[3:00] can be a universe, God, Jesus, Buddha,

[3:03] Christina, whatever you want. Very simple

[3:05] full moon ritual. Be

[3:07] careful what you thank for, be careful what

[3:09] you ask for clarity. It's very

[3:10] powerful; it's a moment when the moon is like this,

[3:13] good, banishing energy. Anyway, choose

[3:16] well what you want to focus on,

[3:18] this light, this tension. Okay,

[3:20] let me tell you to subscribe to the channel,

[3:22] do this line of gratitude, know how

[3:24] life improves, and stay tuned because soon

[3:26] we'll have the tongue ritual.

[3:28] Before that, my dear ones, the

[3:29] same...

Frequently Asked Questions

Laylä Föz teaches two practices: first, write down everything you're grateful for and meditate on it; second, light candles, hold or visualize clear quartz, close your eyes, and ask for clarity on one life area while connecting with whatever spiritual source feels true to you.
In Laylä's teaching, gratitude acts as a multiplier—the more you acknowledge and write down what you've received, the more abundance you attract. She emphasizes: 'The more things you write that you're grateful for, the more you attract.'
Yes. While Laylä recommends clear quartz for its clarity energy, candlelight alone is sufficient. The core of the ritual is your attention, your gratitude, and your intention—these matter far more than specific materials.
Laylä teaches a three-phase cycle: new moon (plant intentions), waxing moon (nurture the energy as it grows), full moon (harvest what manifested and ask for clarity). Repeating this each lunar month creates a complete system for intentional living.
The full moon amplifies whatever you focus on. If you express gratitude for something or seek clarity on something, that energy will magnify. She cautions mindful choosing: 'Be careful what you thank for, be careful what you ask for clarity.'
Laylä recommends clear quartz as 'the stone of clarity, mental focus' for full moon rituals. It helps anchor your attention when you're seeking illumination on a life question or issue.
Once per lunar cycle, at the full moon. When practiced alongside new moon and waxing moon rituals, they form a complete monthly system for manifesting and spiritual growth.
