Where to Start with Caroline McCready: A Beginner's Guide

Caroline McCready is a breathwork facilitator and meditation teacher who has been guiding practice since 2011. She has no albums or books, so her work lives in guided meditations on Insight Timer and YouTube. Her emphasis is deep relaxation, breathwork, and gentle guidance toward what she describes as a natural state of effortless focus and stillness. She also teaches creative practices alongside meditation.

The Single Best Entry Point

Start with one of her guided meditations on YouTube. I can't point you to a specific title, because the facts I have don't name individual sessions. The reason to begin on YouTube is that you can see and hear her before committing to anything. Pick the session whose description centers on relaxation or breath, since that is the core of her approach, and play it through once without multitasking. Your first goal is to find out whether her pacing and voice suit you.

The Next Two or Three Places to Go

Her Insight Timer profile. This is the other main home for her guided meditations. Insight Timer lets you save sessions, follow a teacher, and build a personal library, so it works better for repeat practice than YouTube does. Follow her there and save two or three sessions.

A breathwork-focused session. Breathwork is one of her two stated roles, and it is a different experience from seated, silent-style meditation. After your first relaxation session, try one built around breath to see which mode you respond to.

Her creative practices. She teaches these alongside meditation. If the meditations resonate, look for this material on her channels. It is the least obvious part of her work and the most likely to surprise you.

What to Expect on a First Encounter

Expect a calm, unhurried approach. Her stated aim is nurturing well-being, not pushing you through a technique. The guidance is gentle, so don't look for drill-sergeant instruction, productivity framing, or dramatic breath routines. The goal she describes is effortless focus, meaning attention that settles rather than attention you force.

Sessions may feel slow at first, especially if you're used to fast, high-stimulation content. That slowness is the method, and you don't need to fix it.

Common Beginner Misunderstandings

"I'm supposed to empty my mind." Her framing is a natural state of effortless focus, not suppression of thought. If your mind wanders, that is not failure.

"Breathwork is the same as meditation." They overlap, but they are different tools. She teaches both, and they can feel different in the body. Don't judge one by your experience of the other.

"Gentle means shallow." Deep relaxation is the stated center of the work. A soft delivery doesn't mean low impact. Some people find that being guided quietly gets them further than effortful technique does.

"I need to find the perfect session." With a large library of guided sessions, beginners often browse for an hour and never practice. Pick one and do it.

When in Your Life This Work Tends to Land Hardest

Gentle, relaxation-centered guidance tends to land when you're depleted rather than when you're striving. That includes periods of sustained stress, poor sleep, or a stretch where you've been running on willpower and need something that asks nothing of you. It also suits people who have tried more rigorous meditation styles, felt like they were failing, and are ready for an approach built on ease.

It can also land during transitions, when you want a reliable ten-minute anchor in the day. And because she teaches creative practices, it may suit people who feel creatively blocked and want to approach that with softness instead of pressure.

If you're looking for intensity, discipline, or a structured curriculum with credentials and milestones, this may feel too mild. Her strength is calm and consistency.

A One-Week Starter Plan

Day 1: Watch one guided meditation on YouTube, seated or lying down, with nothing else open. Afterward, write one sentence about how you feel.

Day 2: Create an Insight Timer account if you don't have one, follow her, and save three sessions. Do not listen yet. Setting up the library lowers friction for the rest of the week.

Day 3: Repeat the Day 1 session at the same time of day. Repetition shows you more than novelty does.

Day 4: Try a breathwork-focused session. Note whether it energizes or settles you.

Day 5: Return to a relaxation-focused session. Compare it with Day 4 in your notes.

Day 6: Choose a session by instinct and practice at a different time, such as before bed if you've been doing mornings. Notice whether timing changes the experience.

Day 7: Review your notes. Decide which type of session, which time of day, and which platform worked best. Commit to that combination for the next week. If you're curious, explore her creative practices.

Keep each session short enough that you'll actually do it. Showing up daily matters more than any single session.
