Jamen Moss is a musician from Aotearoa New Zealand and the founder of ILLUMINE sound therapy. He makes sound for healing and stillness: music, meditations and sound journeys to expand consciousness.
Questions of meaning, consciousness and love have drawn him since early life. The passing of his elder brother when Jamen was seventeen brought a spiritual awakening and set him on the path of the seeker. He explored the world's spiritual traditions through the books and talks of teachers such as Ram Dass, Alan Watts and Thich Nhat Hanh, and was inspired by musicians including Trevor Hall and Xavier Rudd to discover music as a way of expressing the inner world.
In his early twenties, after studying film, music and teaching, he began a deeper exploration with the Bhakti Yoga tradition. He travelled and lived within monastic community, chanting and leading kirtan. His journeys around Aotearoa and the world took him to indigenous culture, yoga gatherings, eco-communities and wild places, always with a wider inquiry into what it is to be human.
In 2019 he began producing sound healing music and guided meditations as Life Illumined, building an audience across platforms including Insight Timer. That work has grown into the ILLUMINE project. He began writing original music in 2020 and released his first self-produced album, Creator, in 2025. His intention is to create spaces that bring us close to the light of the heart.
Worth Knowing
Jamen Moss operates at the intersection of musician, meditation teacher, and sound healer—three roles that converge in his ILLUMINE sound therapy project. Born in Aotearoa New Zealand, Moss began his spiritual journey following a profound loss: the death of his elder brother when he was seventeen triggered a deep inquiry into consciousness, meaning, and the nature of the human experience. Over years of studying traditions through teachers like Ram Dass, Alan Watts, and Thich Nhat Hanh, and drawing inspiration from musicians including Trevor Hall and Xavier Rudd, Moss discovered that music itself could be a vehicle for spiritual expression and healing. His early work in the Bhakti Yoga tradition—living within monastic community, leading kirtan chants, and traveling to indigenous cultures and eco-communities—shaped his understanding of sound as sacred practice. Since 2019, his ILLUMINE sound therapy work has grown across platforms including Insight Timer, where he offers guided meditations and sound journeys alongside his original music. In 2025, he released "Creator," his debut self-produced album of original compositions, representing a maturation of his multi-disciplinary approach to sound, meditation, and consciousness.
